Lithography Materials

Etching is the process of using strong acid to cut into a metal surface to create a design in in the metal, which is the reproduced with inks and a press. As an intaglio method of printmaking, it is, along with engraving, the most important technique for old master prints, and remains in wide use today. We carry a full assortment of etching tools, grounds, etching pens and etching plates, and inks. Find etching inks from Gamblin and Charbonnel, etching plates and tools from Utrecht and mediums and grounds from Golden, Gamblin & Charbonnel.

Lithography is a method for printing using a stone or metal etching plate with a completely smooth surface. Invented in 1796 by as a cheap method of publishing posters, lithography can be used to print text or artwork onto paper or other suitable material. Utrecht offers Lithographic pencils as well as mediums grounds an varnishes from Charbonnel and Korn's.
